The Quonochongtaug House by Bernheimer Architects is located in coastal Rhode Island, three hours from New York City. Built as a retreat for a Brooklyn family, the design of the house offers a comfortable and relaxing open floor plan with a pool terrace, looking over the ocean bay.
The architecture of the house puts the importance of the natural light in big role. Through skylights and big windows the interiors shape their atmosphere and luminance by the season of the year and time of the day. This is something total contraversial to the everyday living in the city, where only exteriors join the colors and lightness. The Quonochongtaug House has won a 2015 AIA National Small Projects Award.
